So I’m often asked questions in regards to the color difference of a ketone test strip. What I expect is everyone to understand what’s happening in our metabolism when the strip changes. I’m going to use broad strokes and try to make sense of it. I want you to think of yourself as an automobile. You need fuel to operate. Most Americans operate 100% on excess blood sugars running through their metabolism. Our clients should be near sugar free and running on ketones (stored fats) in their bloodstream over blood sugars. So when you initially detoxify from sugar and transition to ketones (stored fats) as your main fuel source. The strips are going to be dark, towards the purple spectrum, why? You have a high concentration of unused energy that you are passing instead of using. Because you haven’t healed your insulin resistance and your urinating out a fuel source your not prone to utilizing. Once you become fat adapted your strip lightens up to the pink spectrum, because your utilizing the energy instead of passing it through your metabolism. Once that happens that’s when the noon crash (Hangry) feeling subsides and your tapped into a the stable fuel source of stored fats (ketones) through your day. I do not advocate the word ketosis. Instead I advocate awareness of the excess Sugars we are attacked with daily via the food industries.
